DaimlerChrysler will be building a large outdoor display area for next month's North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. In an attempt to cope with the limited space available inside the convention center, a large part of the Jeep display will be across the street from the main entrace to the exhibit hall, on the property of an adjacent hotel. Boasting a pair of firsts - the first Jeep-branded Street and Racing Technology (SRT) vehicle and the first four-wheel drive SRT vehicle - the all-new 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is available for $39,995, which includes $675 for destination. A vehicle brand that is widely known, and also widely confused with a lot of other vehicle type, is the Jeep. Unlike other automotive brands, the Jeep is not manufactured by a company with the same name. Current Jeep models marketed under the Daimler-Chrysler Corporation include the Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Liberty, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Wrangler still looks much like the original Jeep while the Liberty and Grand Cherokee are SUVs. Even though the other two models of the Jeep no longer look like the original, it still keeps most of its characteristics.

There are many web pages about Jeeps, but when they mention Willys, they are usually talking about the WW2 military vehicles. When they talk about non-military Willys, they mean early CJ's. Jeep - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The first prototype was built for the Department of the Army by American Bantam, followed by two other prototypes produced by Ford and Willys-Overland. Quantities (1500) of each of the three models were then extensively field tested. Each had desirable qualities. During the bidding process for 16,000 "jeeps", Willys-Overland offered the lowest bid and won the initial contract. Thus creating what would become the standardized jeep. The model MB military Jeep was built by Willys-Overland Motor Company in Toledo, Ohio. The Jeep was widely copied in countries other than the United States, one version being made in France by Hotchkiss and in the Netherlands by Nekaf. There were several different versions created such as a railway Jeep and an amphibious Jeep. The marque has gone through many owners, starting in 1941 with Willys, which produced the first Civilian Jeep (CJ). Willys was sold to Kaiser in 1953, which became Kaiser-Jeep in 1963. American Motors bought the company in 1970. The Chrysler Corporation bought out AMC in 1987, shortly after the Jeep CJ was replaced with the AMC-designed Jeep Wrangler.
