After a lengthy lawsuit between the two companies regarding the use of the seven-slat grille, a loss that without doubt still smarts like a chronic war wound on the hind ends of top Chrysler Group execs, Jeep has countered with a conceptual challenger to the HUMVEE. The Rescue is no Wrangler, making a shadow that covers no less than 80 inches of real estate in width, and featuring a wheelbase that stretches 123 inches. Its MTR tread, run-flat tires are a mammoth 37 inches in diameter!

February 5, 2004 - Jeep had not one, but TWO concepts to show at the 2004 North American International Auto Show. One concept was the toy-like Treo, an interesting-looking but very un-Jeep-like design. The people at Jeep understand this, so some other classic Jeep features have found their way onto the Rescue. Up front, the windshield can be folded down and the sunroof can be almost completely retracted. Well, they would get scuffed up if anything could to get past the Rescue's 37-inch run-flat tires. Not only do these tires eliminate the need for a spare, but they can also be "tuned" from inside the cabin (by changing the air pressure) to give the Rescue maximum traction at all times.

A new Jeep production model based on the Rescue concept, shown at last year's Detroit Auto Show, made a recent debut in lensshot of a spy photog's rig. The four-door version of the Wrangler is the first in the line to feature a new, heavy-duty architecture, on which Jeep will build a new two-door model and likely a pickup. This model is obviously smaller than the H2-sized Rescue concept, though it appears to be a pretty faithful representation of the prototype in styling.
