The M6 automatic transmission
The M6, sold as Presto-Matic, Fluidmatic, Tip-Toe Shift, Gyro-Matic, and Gyro-Torque, was a two-speed manual transmission with an electric 1:1 ratio unit (loosely called an overdrive unit) attached. The driver would select either low or high range (the two manual forward gear sets) and "shift" the transmission within either range at a predetermined speed by lifting his foot off the accelerator pedal, causing the overdrive unit to kick in.

Advance Adapters Inc. Jeep Transfer Cases 1941-1979
On all Jeep vehicles 1941-79, equipped with the Dana Spicer 6 spline transfer case, you will have the largest selection available for transfer case adapters. These adapters are for replacement of Jeep transmissions that have a 6 spline input gear to the transfer case. The Jeep transmission model numbers are T84, T90, T86, T85, T89, T98A, T18, T15, and T150. On all Jeep vehicles 1969-71, equipped with the Dana Spicer 10 spline transfer case, you will have a large selection of transfer case adapters that can be used without changing the input gear of the transfer case. These adapters are all manufactured to fit a 10 spline transfer case input gear that was used only on T14 3 speed transmissions. The adapters that have the 10 spline design are critical when your vehicle is equipped with a Warn, Husky, or Saturn overdrive. If your vehicle does not have an overdrive, then you could use any of the 6 spline adapters and simply change the input gear of the transfer case to one that had 6 splines.

ROCKCRAWLER.com - Jeeps, Dodges to Receive New Six Speed Manual ...
For 2005, Jeep Liberty and Jeep Wrangler will feature the NSG 370 six-speed manual transmission, replacing two five-speed manual transmissions previously used in these applications-the NV1500 and NV3550-reducing cost and complexity. This new transmission is a member of the six-speed NSG 370 family, similar to the one used in the Chrysler Crossfire-the first six-speed for the Chrysler Brand. The NSG 370 six-speed manual transmission provides optimal shift quality, improved quietness and high quality. A new dual-ratio transmission shift-tower system allows packaging of the six-speed shift pattern within the existing Jeep vehicles, and it is tuned for optimized shift quality. For smooth operation the First and Second gears have triple-cone synchronization, the Third and Fourth gears feature double-cone and the Fifth and Sixth gears single-cone synchronization. Hard-finished gears allow for quiet operation. A multi-rail, steel-construction shift system delivers high strength and precision. The two-piece aluminum case with integrated clutch housing assures powertrain stiffness and light weight. Joining Chrysler Group's six-speed manual transmission family is the Getrag 238 six-speed manual featured as standard equipment on the all-new 2005 Dodge Dakota and 2005 Dodge Ram 1500. Replacing the NV3500 five-speed manual transmission, this six-speed offers smooth shifting with triple-cone synchronizers in First and Second gears, and double-cone Third and Fourth gear synchronizers. Noise, vibration and harshness are minimized with hard-finished gears. Shift rails are supported with ball bearings and Teflon bushings to provide precise shift feel. Six speeds provide optimized ratios to enhance performance and the fun-to-drive factor. Torque capacity and efficiency are optimized through the use of an intermediate plate, speed gears supported by needle bearings and clean-sealed ball bearings on shafts.

Jeep V-8 Power! -- Off Road Magazine
There are quite a few different transmissions and transfers cases that can be used behind a small-block Chevy, and there are numerous aftermarket adapters available to make the job easier. For this swap, an Advanced Adapters steel adapter ring was bolted to the back of the Chevy engine block to mate the engine to the original AMC version T400 auto transmission. The adapter ring laterally rotates the transmission mounting location 10 degrees, so the transmission mount must be shimmed on the passenger side of its mount. An adapter piece is also pressed into the end of the Chevy crankshaft. This piece receives the snout of the torque converter and is necessary because the adapter thickness moves the crankshaft away from the tranny. The Jeep already had a high-quality three-row radiator. However, the hose outlets on the Chevy engine are on opposite sides of those on the AMC V-8. A local radiator shop relocated the inlet and outlet fittings as needed. Conversion radiators are also available with the proper fitting location.
